Keller Williams Realty Partners SW - Serving Clients Through-Out South Florida

Miramar is the second largest city in Broward County. It spans most of the southern border of the county. Miramar is ideally located for both commerce and recreation it is minutes away from downtown Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, which also have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world

The city of Miramar is located in Broward County, Florida, about 14 miles southwest of Fort Lauderdale and 20 miles north of Miami. Nearby municipalities include Hollywood, Sunrise, Plantation, and Pembroke Pines. Named by Robert Gordon, the city's first mayor, "Miramar" is Spanish for "View of the Sea". The city shares its name with a Cuban suburb of Havana. Incorporated in 1955, Miramar has seen its city boundaries grow over the years from their original size of 3 square miles to the present size of over 30 square miles. The city's motto is ?Beauty and Progress", a phrase which is inscribed on the City Seal. Miramar has 22 neighborhood parks and 5 community parks within its boundaries. Also in town is the Miramar Civic Center, site of yearly events such as September's Caribe Fest and October's Halloween Masquerade Dance. Presently under construction in Miramar is a Town Center which is expected to house a new City Hall and public library, with retail and residential components included in a park-like setting with waterfront views. This complex will include the Miramar Cultural Arts Center, a venue for artists, teachers and students to perform, rehearse and exhibit.

With a population of over 73,000 residents and a land area of 3 square miles, the picturesque city of Miramar has an easy intimacy and gracious affability that allows visitors to feel right at home. Founded by A. L. Mailman in 1955, Miramar was initially envisioned as a bedroom community situated within easy access of big city life. Over the years Miramar has greatly benefited from sensitive and careful town planning allowing for one third of the total area of the city to remain undeveloped. Just 30 minutes away from both Miami International and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airports, Miramar lies directly off I-75, I-95 and the Florida turnpike. Miramar is also close to the two of the most popular departure points for leisure cruise lines: Port Everglades and Port Miami. Average travel time for most commuters
is 32 minutes. Located within a half hour drive from Miami and one-hour drive from beautiful Palm Beach, Miramar is within easy access of affluent urban areas, yet it has a significant buffer that allows one to enjoy the benefits of small town quietude.

The median resident age in the community of Miramar is 32; the median income is over $54,000 and the median house value is approaching $154,000 testifying to an economically sound community. Over 85% of the adult population have graduated high school and over 25% hold a bachelor's degree or higher. Miramar's beautiful panoramic beach attracts visitors from around the world making tourism an important
component of the economic fiber. Miramar is blessed with many venues for outdoor adventure. Hiking, fishing and boating are just a handful of the recreational pastimes that make this city so enjoyable. The extra attention to creating an environment that is both aesthetically pleasing and properly functional is its own reward and the community of Miramar reaps the benefits of such sensitive care.

The city of Miramar has experienced unprecedented growth in the past decade. With a population of about 41,000 in 1990, it is home to 78,813 today and it's expected to eventually swell to 140,000 -- about the size of Fort Lauderdale today. If the cows munching grass along Flamingo Road attract you as they did Robin Williams (who filmed Birds of a Feather there in 1995), don't be surprised if the mooing critters disappear to make room for houses one day. About 6,500 jobs have been created in the past couple of years and there has been $1 billion in investments for commericial, industrial construction, according to the city. Several companies have moved to Miramar, including Lucent Technologies, NBC-6, Spirit Airlines, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Southern Wine and Spirits, Aviation Sales and AT&T. For
now, Miramar is relying on growth to pay bills. Even though the name Miramar means "look to the sea," homes in the fast-growing suburb continue to creep westward toward the disappearing, internationally acclaimed Everglades. Actually set in former Everglades, the family-oriented community is the darling of growing families looking for moderately priced new homes. Some businesses like it, too, moving into the
upscale Miramar Park of Commerce because of its convenient distance to Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Meanwhile, Miramar is the bane of some persistent, yet largely ignored environmentalists, who cringe at bulldozers eating away at some of the county's last-remaining undeveloped wetlands.
