Kendall occupies a large 16 square mile area on the unincorporated suburban zone of Miami-Dade County, just on the edge of the Florida Everglades. Kendall is a tropical, multi-cultural community in the southwest section of Miami, Florida. It is an unincorporated suburb of Miami-Dade County.

Architectural styles are varied. Some are grand, some reserved; some two story, some ranch style; some contemporary, some classic. Many residential areas were developed from old avocado and mango groves, while others bear their piney wood and palmetto heritage. Remnants of both environments are worked into the surrounding tropical landscaping . Despite the feeling of spaciousness of the total area, each Kendall suburb has its neighborhood atmosphere. There are neighborhood parks, playgrounds and a wide range of recreational programs
centered around the county-run park systems. Two Miami-Dade County Public Library Branches serve the area; a regional bookmobile makes regularly scheduled stops to all reaches of the area.  


Metrozoo is Kendall's main attraction as a world renowned innovative facility providing animals with free-to-roam land surrounded by moats. Over 2,000 animals, from over 240 species, inhabit the 290 acres of jungles, forest and trails. Of particular interest are its world-class aviary and the rare White Bengal Tigers. Miami MetroZoo is fast becoming one of the best zoos in the nation. Its climate allows it to
keep a wide variety of animals from Asia, Australia and Africa like no other zoo in the country. One of the first free-range zoos in the country, the exhibits are entirely cageless. Animals are grouped according to their geographic territory and animals that live together peacefully in the wild are placed in exhibits together.  


Dadeland Mall is one of Miami's premier shopping centers. This newly renovated center boasts over 185 specialty stores including Adrienne Vittadini, Coach, Gymboree,Lucky Brand Jeans, Marciano, Movado, Montblanc, Victoria's Secret and Zara.  


Kendall happens to be a victim of its own success. Kendall is within a 15 minute drive of Coral Gables, Miami Beach, Key Biscayne, Adventura, the Miami Design District, the beginning of the Florida Keys. Compiled of hundreds and hundreds of residential
properties, strip malls and shopping centers, endless stretches of road and huge parking lots, Kendall is a magnet to young families in search of the white picket fence far from city life. For $200,000 to $300,000 or maybe a little more, couples can buy a roomy, newly built house to raise their young families. The resulting influx has left most public schools with high enrollments; home are grossly overcrowded. But almost
everything in Kendall is congested. Traffic, for example, is notorious this side of town, especially in the mornings and afternoons. The Kendall area offers countless suburbs and developments of individual character. Spread over the area are residential clusters including estates, gracious homes, modern townhouses, apartment complexes and quiet homes whose differences account for the varied
personality of Kendall. Some are built around lakes; many line canals; yet others border acres of fields.
